The Liberian government
website (http://www.allaboutliberia.com) published a story on April 22,2002 accusing the Liberian rebel group called Liberian United for Reconciliation and Development
(LURD) for causing the terrible burns to the body of a Liberian girl named Guadah Larblah, a resident of Kakata,
Margibi County.
The primary question I would like to ask the perpetrators of this heinous crime against
this innocent 14 years old student, Guadah Larblah is WHY???
What excuse or explanation can you all give for the damage to this little girls future?
Words are inadequate to
express my sorrow and disgust for this incident and the thousands of other similar or worse incidents that have happened in
Liberia over the past thirteen years many of which are never reported.
It is well known that the various warring factions during the
horrific Civil War in Liberia are notorious for trading accusations and counter accusations. These are the same groups today
that are on the battlefield once again but under different acronyms (same old wine in new bottles). Even if Jesus Christ were
to witness the incident in Kakata, these bellicose parties would deny responsibility. By thy fruits, we know them. Lies and
deceit and treachery are just few on the list of endless negative attributes that characterize their behaviour.
I declare here and now that both the Liberian Government and the LURD dissidents responsible
for the sufferings of miss Guadah in particular and the hundreds of cases of Human Rights abuses documented by Rights advocacy
groups in general. These two belligerent groups have robbed that student of a bright future and her participation in the future
reconstruction and development of our country they have destroyed beginning on December 24, 1989.
I hold the LURD dissidents
responsible because no one in Liberia at the moment has embraced their activities. Every sector of the Liberian society has
vehemently opposed and condemned their quest and methodology for State power. We all know very well that the Socio-Economic
and Political conditions in Liberia are worse beyond description and continue to deteriorate as we speak, but creating another
senseless Killing Fields and wanton looting spree in our countryside is highly unacceptable. We NEVER invited you to
redeem us from tyranny or oppression. Look at the state of Voinjama city today (see http://www.newdemocrat.org for recent pictures)! Is it something to be proud of as Liberians calling yourselves a group united for Development? The
looting and destruction being caused by your greed for power will not go unpunished. I mean, you people are heartless and
without an ounce of shame or sanity. No decent and well-meaning person would take pride to show pictures reminiscing such
barbarity. Does the LURD expect Liberians to see such photographs and welcome them as liberators? Their leadership must be
a bunch of daft Jokers with no sense of directions.
As for the Liberian Government, it is held responsible because
of the cardinal fact that it refused to adhere completely to the Abuja Accord that paved the way for its seating with particular
emphasis on the restructuring the security apparatus of the country. The numerous human rights violations in Liberia is being
put solely on the head of the security forces. The reason we voted the NPP government to power in the special elections in
1997 was to provide reconciliation, reconstruction, better education and health care delivery system, and other essential
social services. It is disheartening to note that these mandate given by the people are yet to be achieved simply due to lack
of vision. Failure to provide the basis for these services mentioned supra give rise to the people being disgruntle and rebellion
being imminent.
Apologists of the government would argue that the government was not given the chance to function
and now they would blame the current United Nations sanctions imposed on Liberia
for its support to RUF rebels of Sierra Leone. But, on the contrary, there is an old adage that says the way you make your
bed is the way you will sleep on it. The NPP-Government has failed to meet up
with international standards in its policies, operations and Human Rights records. No international donor country hates Liberia!
The fact is that the people are afraid to give our government their money because it lacks sound fiscal management. The money
will go towards security operations and the truth about our security is that, it is not respected by the outside world simply
because it is not from the Abuja Accord. Our government claims sovereignty as
basis for not adhering to the Accord, but how can you say such when you dont have a brass penny for yourself? Do beggars have
choices in this present world politics? Hence, if we want the Donors money, we have to conform to the internationally acceptable
norms. Every day the clamp down on either the press, human rights activists or civilians. Who will take such a government
seriously? Simple answer: NOBODY!!
Elections were held in
July 1997 and the results give the present NPP led government the mandate to steer the state of affairs until 2003. We have
all seen the capability of our government both nationally and on the international scene. Nobody needs to explain the hardships
facing the masses in Liberia and those languishing in the refugee camps in the West African sub-region. The facts are there
and visible. We have one chance at the pending elections in 2003 to make the difference for our own survival as a nation and
people. . We again see the proliferation of many aspirants claiming a new day for Liberia but to be quite honest, critically
analysing their credentials make them no different from the incumbent whom is or was one time either a compatriot in arms
or partner in the design and orchestration of the war that destroyed our common patrimony. If the opposition Political Parties
will again bicker over trivialities and egoism as happened in 1997, History will be written!
Let it be known for the records and for the future generations
yet unborn that I am adding my voice to the voices of the many who are definitely supportive of all legal means through a
Court of competent Jurisdiction or any future Truce and Reconciliation Commission that may be set up for Liberia such that
Officials and members of LURD, the present Liberian Government leadership, and Heads and Officials of former warring factions
be held one hundred percent liable for such terrible and nasty crimes against our people, the sub-region and other citizens
of humanity in general. It is inconceivable that people would want to avoid speaking of the crimes they committed by arguing
that the trend taken in South Africa is inapplicable to Liberia. Such absurdity leads one to wonder if these jokers think
we are all bunch of fools and they can keep the Liberian masses in a state of abject poverty and backwardness by maintaining
a state of panic, fear, chaos and high illiteracy.
Devious plans to fabricate clandestine laws to protect criminals from prosecution even after they
have left government or while in exile, but the fact here is that no Liberian is more Liberian than the other. The same way
such laws are promulgated, similar techniques shall be used to reverse it and have you all prosecuted. Our laws are crystal
clear on the issue that nobody kills with impunity shall be allowed to go free. It is about time we turn the slogan Liberia
is a country of Laws and not of Men into its true meaning and face the challenges ahead. With determination and dedication,
Peace will return to our glorious land of liberty. God bless Liberia and Peace to you all!!
